The 15th day of August in the lunar year is exactly half of autumn, hence, it is called the “Mid-Autumn Festival”.  This day is also a festival for traditional China emperors to pay respect to the moon, so it gradually evolved and became the Mid-Autumn Festival.  As the moon is full in sky, it symbolizes the reunion of the family; consequently, the Mid-Autumn Festival becomes the day for all family members to gather together.
