The Origin of the Dragon Boat Festival & Golden Brother Wishes You All the Best

The Dragon Boat Festival is a special day for the Chinese people to commemorate Quyuan who came from the aristocratic family of Chu State during the Warring States period.  Quyuan sunk himself on May 5th (lunar year) in the year 278 BC.  That year, King Zhzoxing of Qin State sent his senior general to take over the capital of Chu State named “Yingdo” which had been built for more than 220 years.  Quyuan wrote “mourning Yingdu” to describe all his feelings about the ruin of Chu State and his family.  However, at that time, he was nothing but a minister in exile for many years.  He determined to serve his State but he did not have any way, he hope to save his State but there was no hope at all.

Later on, he wrote another article named “Fisherman”, which included a famous quotation “the whole world is turbid and I am the only one with a clear mindset.  Everyone got drunk and I am the only one with a sober conscious.” Quyuan was 62 years of age at that year.  The pain and powerless feeling toward his State and the agony in his mind finally come to end so he sunk himself in the Miluo River and entered history; however, two customs were established “rowing dragon boat” and “wrapping zongzi” to commemorate him.  The original purpose of boat rolling was to find the dead body of Yuyuan while dumpling zongzi into the river was hoped the water creatures would not damage Quyuan’s body.

On this special day, Golden Brother would like to share this history with you and hope you are all well.
