Golden Brother Wishes You a Happy Mid-Autumn Festival
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as "Moon Evening," "Autumn Festival," "Mid-Autumn Festival," "August Festival," or "Reunion Festival," is one of the major traditional festivals celebrated by many ethnic groups in Chinese society. The festival falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, marking the midpoint of autumn, hence got its name. It is one of the four major traditional Chinese festivals, along with the Chinese New Year, Tomb-Sweeping Day, and Dragon Boat Festival.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a significant occasion for family reunions. On this day, families gather to worship ancestors, share meals, and admire the moon. In recent years, Taiwan has also embraced a barbecue celebration style for this festival. Different eras have given the Mid-Autumn Festival various meanings. The Tang Dynasty poet Wang Jian wrote a poem titled "Viewing the Moon on the 15th Night and Sending it to Du Langzhong," with the line: "Tonight the moon is bright, and everyone gazes at it, wondering whose home the autumn thoughts have fallen upon." Song Dynasty poet Su Shi's "Shui Diao Ge Tou" includes the line: "People have joys and sorrows, partings and reunions; the moon has its phases of fullness and wane." For those who cannot reunite with their loved ones, a full moon becomes a shared symbol of longing.
